Welcome to BLMS STEM/CTE for the 2019 - 2020 school year! I wanted to dedicate this first post to useful information about this academic year. I won't go into great detail here about what students will be learning in my class; please download my syllabus for that information, or view my First, Second, or Third Trimester pages for even more details.
First, I'd like to introduce myself. I have been teaching for 12 years, mostly middle school science. This is my second year at BLMS. Before teaching, I worked as a biochemist for several entities including Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company in Indianapolis. I hail originally from Colorado but have called the PNW home for the past 15 years.
Second, I'd like to introduce parents and guardians to the curriculum your students will be accessing this year: Project Lead The Way. Your student has already logged into the PLTW.ORG website and knows their login ID and password. Please take some time and have your student login for you and show you the website.
Third, I'd like to share some tips for both students and parents/guardians to make this a successful year. The student should have a composition notebook for this class. This notebook will be used for all the drawings, sketches, notes, algorithms and assignments the student will be completing throughout the year. Although there are many different types of notebooks available, I require the composition type notebook for the main reasons that it is harder to loose pages out of it than others and they are inexpensive. If your student does not have a composition notebook yet, please insure they get one soon. These notebooks can be kept in class, but students should be bringing them home regularly for you to see them. Only pencil should be used in these notebooks - not pens or markers - so please insure the student has plenty of pencils to write with.
Finally, I'd like to invite parents and guardians to feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Although I have listed my telephone number on my contact page, I do prefer email. I will see an email before I see a missed call.
Thank you!
Mr. Christensen
