WHAT IS FIRST ROBOTICS?

WHO ARE WE?

We are the Beaver Lake Middle School FIRST Robotics Club, established 7 years ago in Issaquah, Washington, in hopes of creating a fun, nurturing space of STEM learning. This being our 7th year in a row, we have had countless awards and medals from our 5 FLL teams and 2 FTC teams. This includes the Champion Award last year in 2024 FLL qualifiers, as well as being eligible to participate in national competitions in the states.

FIRST Robotics is a global non-profit robotics community preparing young people for the future through life-changing youth robotics programs that build skills, confidence, and resilience.

FIRST participants are guided by a signature set of Core Values to conduct research, fundraise, design, build, and showcase their achievements. The thrilling, sports-like challenges build their self-confidence and collaborative problem-solving skills and have a proven and lasting impact on STEM learning and interest. FIRST participants and alumni gain access to education and career discovery opportunities, connections to exclusive scholarships and employers, and a place in the FIRST community for life. At our school, we have teams 17595 and 15337.

BLMS FIRST CLUB PROGRAMS

"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower."- Steve Jobs

In FLL, FIRST® LEGO® League teams (up to 10 members) use their imagination and critical thinking to program a Lego robot that solves real-world challenges. They also design, build, and program Lego robots to perform "missions" on a playing field to perform autonomous “missions” on a playing field. They also use their critical thinking skills to solve a real world problem of their choice based on the theme of the year. Students develop critical thinking skills and learn about coding and building principles and tips, all while working with their peers to create a Lego masterpiece.

Grades 4-8

"We need men and women who can dream of things that never were."- Albert Einstein

This is for people who had prior experience with FIRST, ready to move on with a more hands on experience. In this next step of Robotics, FIRST® Tech Challenge teams (15-17 members) design, build, and program robots of their own to use to compete and play a floor game in an alliance format. Students develop skills such as engineering and coding, as well as some life skills such as organizational skills and the spirit of teamwork IN FTC, students develop crucial life skills and practice engineering principles, while learning the value of teamwork, competition, and sharing ideas between peers. Great for anyone wanting to learn to build, code, and other valuable life skills. We have two teams at Beaver Lake Middle School, team 17595 and 15337.
